Sheriff’s Report
On 06/18/2024 at approximately 11:46 AM a male kayaker aged 73, from Clio, Michigan named Riley McLincha went overboard on his kayak near a barge at the Lagrange lock and dam in Brown County, Illinois. Our office as well as several other local agencies responded to the scene to begin the search. McLincha was pulled under the barge in the lock chamber and was not wearing a life jacket.
Crews have been on scene since Tuesday morning doing an extensive search of the area. This afternoon 06/20/2024 at approximately 11:55 AM search crews located the male deceased in the river approximately a quarter mile North of the Pike County Line on the Brown County side of the Illinois River. I pronounced the subject deceased at approximately 12:14 PM, and the body was recovered from the river. An autopsy will be completed tomorrow in Bloomington, Illinois.
I would like to thank all the search crews and the amount of professionalism from each department to bring an end to this horrible accident. The following area agencies responded and helped with the search.
