Brown County Highway Department
Brown County Highway Department is responsible for the construction, engineering, planning, and maintenance of the 67 miles of county highways and 16 bridges in accordance with the Illinois Highway Code for the use of the traveling public.
The Brown Highway Department also provides technical assistance to 9 Township Road Commissioners for their 381 miles of road and 54 bridges, as well as the lead agency for all Township projects constructed or maintained with State Motor Fuel Tax funding. In addition, the Highway Department keeps records of contracts, purchases of materials, machinery, etc., and administers all highway and bridge funds for the County.
The staff works closely with local citizens and agencies, as well as the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
